Solo Game Project – Unity

By Kwan Zhang

Overview:
Burn The House Down! is a creative destruction-based game where players control a small flame navigating an indoor environment. The goal is to burn as many objects as possible and watch the destruction spread dynamically. Unlike traditional combat games, the player doesn’t shoot or fight — instead, they become a chaotic force, setting off chain reactions of fire.

Gameplay:
You start as a spark in a furnished room. By approaching flammable objects like chairs, tables, or curtains, you ignite them. As objects catch fire, the environment responds with visual effects, sound, and physical collapse. Players score points based on the intensity and scale of destruction. There’s no strict win condition — the fun is in watching everything burn.

Core Mechanics:

  • Fire spread logic using Unity’s physics and collider system

  • Each object has unique flammability and destruction behavior

  • Dynamic particle effects for realistic flame and smoke

  • A "destruction score" system that tracks how much chaos the player causes

  • Real-time feedback through lighting changes, audio, and object deformation

Development Goals:

  • Expand to multiple rooms or levels with different themes (kitchen, office, attic, etc.)

  • Add extinguishers, water zones, or NPCs to increase tension and interactivity

  • Refine heat zones, object burn stages, and scoring mechanics

  • Optimize performance with efficient use of particle systems and LOD
